Basma Society launches
"Empowering Gaza’s Youth through Theater" funded by
IFCD

Within the
framework of Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of
Cultural Expressions, adopted by the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2005, the Project
titled "Empowering Gaza’s Youth through Theater" presented by Basma
Society for Culture and Arts – (Basma – Gaza) was approved to
receive funding from the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD). This project aims at promoting the Palestinian
cultural diversity and empowering youth in the Gaza Strip through the
development of the Community-Based Theater (CBT) by developing a pilot CBT
curriculum to be taught to students at University of Palestine (UP). In addition,
the project team will implement extracurricular activities, educational
programs and awareness campaigns to enhance access to the theater in the
community.
Through
this project, the joint work with UNESCO in Palestine will be strengthened in
order to increase cooperation in the field of community theater and to enhance
the available experiences of the two organizations which makes a positive
impact on Gaza’s youth. Then, youth in Gaza need to join capacity building
programs that lead to development of their abilities.
