BASMA FOR CULTURE AND ARTS SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES TRAINING PROGRAM ON CRAFTING AND MANIPULATING PUPPETS.
Gaza City, 20.08.2023 —
BASMA for Culture and Arts has proudly wrapped up the inaugural phase of the capacity-building program, "We Match" targeted towards government educators in the northern Gaza region. The training course, titled "Manufacturing and Manipulating Big-Mouth Puppets and Marionettes," saw the active participation of 32 teachers hailing from 16 government schools in the vicinity. The training, held from 10 – 12 August, spanned nine days and comprised an intensive training regimen amounting to 72 hours. This significant endeavor is part of the broader project, "Enhancing the Effectiveness of Drama Extracurricular Activities in North Gaza Government Schools through the Gaza Juniors Theater Club” undertaken in collaboration with the Belgian Development Agency "Enabel" and funded by the Belgian government.
Empowering Educators for Enhanced Learning
At its core, this comprehensive training program aimed to refine the technical and artistic proficiencies of educators. By doing so, it enabled them to not only create but also skillfully manipulate big mouth puppets and marionettes. The intention was to imbue educators with the competence to seamlessly integrate these creations into both non-curricular and curricular activities within the school environment. The overarching goal remained the enhancement of the learning process and the elevation of academic accomplishments in government schools across the northern Gaza region.
A Multifaceted Curriculum
The training curriculum covered a diverse array of subjects, including the creation of purposeful, practical, and captivating designs for big mouth puppets. Participants were guided through the intricacies of assembling these puppets using an assortment of recyclable materials. Furthermore, the training delved into the art of skillfully manipulating big mouth puppets and crafting marionettes with finesse, utilizing wooden arms and interconnected strings.
Testimonials of Transformation
Nahed Hanouna, the project coordinator, underscored, "This training holds the primary objective of refining educators' technical and artistic acumen. This proficiency provides them with the capability to manufacture and manipulate big mouth puppets and marionettes adeptly. By seamlessly integrating these creations into both non-curricular and curricular activities, we pave the way for an enriched learning experience and bolstered academic achievements in government schools across northern Gaza."
Participants spoke fervently of the transformative experience. One educator expressed, "What I initially perceived as a curriculum-focused workshop evolved into a transformative journey. I found myself gaining the skills and autonomy to craft big mouth puppets and marionettes. Moreover, I harnessed the potential of these creations to amplify curriculum materials and learning strategies. Guided by our skilled trainer, we emerged as a dynamic team, fueled by his knowledge and expertise."
Upcoming Phase and Ongoing Commitment
In tandem, the second phase of this capacity-building program is set to kick off on Monday, 21/08/2023. This subsequent phase, centered on training facilitators for children's drama, spans four days and comprises a cumulative 32 hours of rigorous training.
