- Amd / Gaza: Basma Society for Culture and Arts concluded, on Monday, a tour of theatrical performances for one of the theatrical works from the international stage, which bore the name "The Adventure of the Head of the Mamlouk Jaber", which is a theatrical work by the late Syrian writer Saad Allah Wannous.
The play revolves around the personality of the opportunistic intellectual, "Jaber", who seizes every small opportunity in order to achieve his narrow personal interests. Therefore, we see him taking advantage of the dispute that took place between the caliph and the minister of the country, to do what he did, hoping for a reward from the minister. Where he offered the minister to help him transfer his message to an external party without the knowledge of the caliph and the palace guards, only to end up losing his life because of greed.
This play was produced by the artistic team of the Basma Association, and it was prepared by Mr. Salah Tafesh and directed by Mr. Nahed Hanouna, as part of the activities of a project supported by the Palestinian Cultural Institutions Grant “Takathef – 2022”, and funded by the A.M. Qattan Foundation.
During the project, various activities ranged from preparation for the theatrical script, the technical team, actors, costume and decoration, to the opening show of the play on the stage of the Palestine Red Crescent in Gaza City last January.
These activities concluded with the implementation of 15 theatrical performances in the various governorates of the Gaza Strip, in cooperation with partners from the Palestinian NGOs and universities, with a total attendance of 1,600 young men and women.
Nahed Hanouneh, Executive Director of the Association, stated that this project is in line with the objectives of the Culture and Arts Program within the strategic plan of the Association, and confirms the partnership between the Association and the A.M. Qattan Foundation, in a way that supports the Palestinian cultural movement and enhances the culture of going to the theater among members of the Palestinian community in the Gaza Strip.
